Two-Phase Eulerian/Lagrangian Model for Nucleating Steam Flow

Abstract: This paper describes an Eulerian/Lagrangian two-phase model for nucleating steam based on classical nucleation theory. The model provides an approach for including spontaneous homogeneous nucleation within a full Navier-Stokes solution scheme where the interaction between the liquid and gas phases for a pure fluid is through appropriately modeled source terms. The method allows for the straightforward inclusion of droplet heat, mass, and momentum transfer models along with nucleation within complex flow system… Show more

“…In recent years, Gerber [17] used the classical theory of nucleation and proposed a new numerical model (Eulerian-Lagrangian) to solve the two-phase compressible ows in steam nozzles and turbine blades. Then, Gerber and Kermani [1] presented a pressurebased Eulerian{Eulerian multi-phase model for nonequilibrium condensation in transonic steam ow.…”

“…Gerber (Gerber et al, 2002) developed the Eulerian/Lagrangian and Eulerian/Eulerian two-phase models for predicting the condensation flow with the classical nucleation theory. The effects of friction factor on the condensation flows in the Laval nozzles were performed using the single fluid model (Jiang et al, 2009).…”
