"Two-step" electron transfer and mechanisms of electrochemically induced reactions of the MeCCo3(CO)9 cluster and its phosphine derivatives

Abstract: The electrochemistry of the methylidyne tricobalt nonacarbonyl cluster and of its phosphine-substituted derivatives has been reinvestigated. For this purpose six missing members of the series were prepared. The compounds MeCCo3(C0)+,L, for L = PMe,, n = 1-3; L = PMe2Ph, n = 1-3; L = PMePh2, n = 1, 2; L = PPh,, n = 1; L = PEt,Ph, n = 3, were studied by cyclic voltammetry. By varying the ligands, the electrodes, the sweep ranges and rates, the temperatures, the concentrations, and the solvents and by running the… Show more

“…Simulations were performed by using the MATLAB/easyspin program package . Cyclic voltammetry measurements were performed with a suitable potentiostat (Princeton Applied Research, EG&G, PAR‐Model 263 A) and an electrochemical cell for sensitive compounds ,. We used a freshly polished Pt disk working electrode, a Pt wire as the counter electrode and a Ag wire as a (pseudo) reference electrode {[ n Bu 4 N][PF 6 ] (0.1 m ) as electrolyte}.…”

“…[40] Cyclic voltammetry: CV measurements were performed with an EG&G potentiostat (PAR-model 263 A) and an electrochemical cell for sensitive compounds. [47,48] We used a freshly polished Pt disk working electrode, a Pt wire as counter electrode, and a Ag wire as (pseudo) reference electrode ([nBu 4 6 ] (% 0.1 m) as electrolyte). Potentials were calibrated against the Fc/Fc + couple, [49] which has a potential of E 0 1=2 = 0.35 V vs. Ag/AgCl.…”

“…Monosubstituted triphenylphosphane derivatives of Co 3 C clusters are well known [5,14,[26][27][28] but examples of disubstituted derivatives are much rarer [26,29,30]. A disubstituted derivative, 5 (Fig.…”
