Two Zeolite‐Type Frameworks in One Metal–Organic Framework with Zn24@Zn104 Cube‐in‐Sodalite Architecture

Abstract: Two in one: A metal-organic framework obtained from three different inorganic building blocks (tetrameric Zn(4) O, trimeric Zn(3) OH, and monomeric Zn) posseses a nested cage-in-cage and framework-in-framework architecture. 24 Zn(4) O tetramers and eight Zn monomers form a sodalite cage into which a cubic cage made from eight Zn(3) (OH) trimers is nestled. Eight monomeric Zn(2+) centers interconnect these two cages.

“…TheXray diffraction analysis reveals that 1 crystallizes in the cubic space group Fd " 3c, [10] in which all the Cu II ions were reduced in situ to Cu I ( Figure S1 in the Supporting Information). [11] Theinner "core", denoted as molecular building block 1( MBB1), is a0 Dm etal-organic polyhedron (MOP), formed by six Cu1 dimers ( Figure S7b) with twelve BTR ligands in octahedral geometry ( Figure 1a). “…The interactive connection between metal ions and ligands forms the three-dimensional (3D) cationic host framework of 1, which can be simply identified as an ested structure ( Figure 1). [11] Theinner "core", denoted as molecular building block 1( MBB1), is a0 Dm etal-organic polyhedron (MOP), formed by six Cu1 dimers ( Figure S7b) with twelve BTR ligands in octahedral geometry ( Figure 1a). Each MBB1 has an overall edge length of approximately 2nma nd involves eight triangle windows of about 4 in dimension.…”

“…[18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25] However,c rystalline structures in which the networks consist of different topologies and/or dimensions that interpenetrate are still very rare. Two compounds displayed interesting structural features:one cagewithin-cage porous solid built from two zeolite-type frameworks possessed an interpenetrating structure with Zn 24 @Zn 104 cube-in-sodalite architecture; [24] another metal-organic compound, {[WS 4 Cu 4 (4,4'-bipy) 4 ][WS 4 Cu 4 I 4 (4,4'-bipy) 2 ]·4H 2 O} n ,h ad 3D cationic and anionic coordination polymers in its structure. The two parts, with similar networks, were constructed from copper clusters and 4,4'-bipyridine molecules, buthad different metal building blocks.…”

“…The adsorptionp roperty of the higherC O 2 uptake than the H 2 storage capacity is similar with that observed in CPM-7 (28.6 cm 3 g À1 at 760 torr and 273 Kf or CO 2 ;5 .4 cm 3 g À1 at 760 torr and 77 Kfor H 2 ). [24] Single-crystal XRD analysis shows that NTOU-5 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group I4 1 /a and contains the following elements:o ne ZnO 6 octahedron, two ZnN 4 tetrahedra, one TIMB linker,t wo OX groups and two lattice water molecules (Figure 1). [26] Exceptf or Zn(2) and Zn(3), all of the atoms are in general positions.…”
