“…Combinations of these two end-member models are suggested by a number of workers like [9] that included initial subduction fol- Kolar greenstone belt consists of komatiites, tholeiites, and dacites. Whereas, the Hutti is madeup of tholeiitic basalts, dacites, and rhyolite with rare occurrence of ultramafic rocks [16] [17]. The field observations, Rb-Sr and Sm-Nd isotope studies, geochemical studies are indicating the rocks are classified as basalt, basaltic andesite, andesite, dacite, and rhyolite [17].…”

“…In the WDC, TTG basement rocks (also known as Peninsular Gneiss) are abundant and accreted mainly during Mesoarchean time (Peucat et al, 1993) with some late Archean (~2.6 Ga) potassic plutons (Taylor et al, 1984;Nutman et al, 1996;Jayananda et al, 2006). The EDC is dominated by late Archean TTG gneisses and calc-alkaline to potassic granitoids (Balakrishnan et al, 1999;Nutman et al, 1996;Jayananda et al, 2000). The greenstone belts in the WDC are thick, widely distributed and dominated by sedimentary sequences compared to the greenstone belts in the EDC.…”

“…The uniformitarians proposed that the EDC formed as a result of accretion of a series of island arcs (e.g., Balakrishnan et al, 1999;Manikyamba et al, 2005;Naqvi et al, 2006) to the WDC through transpression. Chadwick et al (2000) suggests that the accretion of already formed island arcs and granitic plutons constituted a single landmass (i.e., Dharwar batholith) to the WDC, causing sin- Chardon et al, 2008) showing the locations and ages of Mesoarchean and Neoarchean granitoids referred to in the text.…”
