UHF PD Experiments on Real Power Transformer and its Frequency Characteristics Results

Abstract: A number of methods have been used in partial discharge (PD) detection and recognition. Among these methods, ultra-high frequency (UHF) detection and recognition based on a single signal have attracted much attention. In this paper, a UHF PD detection system is built, and samples are acquired through experiments on a real power transformer. The received signal is decomposed into different frequency ranges through wavelet packet decomposition (WPD). In each frequency range, a pattern recognition neural network … Show more

“…As suggested in the above standards, an ultra-wide-band (UWB) system or a high-pass filter (HPF) could be used to eliminate source interference, such as ultra-high frequency (UHF) sensor. Some UHF application examples under conventional 50/60 Hz sine wave and PWM excitation are mentioned in [44,53]. This shows that the UHF sensor can be utilized not only for conventional PD detection but also for detecting PD under PWM conditions.…”

“…A general theory of phase transformation using transformers to convert from m to n number of phases on a klimbed transformer is presented in [15][16][17]. In this paper the theory of phase transformation is presented by graphical approach using vectors and phasor diagrams of different phases.…”

“…For comparison, RF has a wider spectrum from low frequency (LF: 30 -300 kHz) up to extra high frequency (EHF: 30 -300 GHz). A question of which range of the RF spectrum is more desirable for PD detection was brought forward in (Fan et al 2016).…”
