Ultra-fast GST-based optical neuron for the implementation of integrated photonic neural networks

Abstract: A fast-integrated optical neuron is proposed based on a micro-ring resonator structure. The GST phase change material is used in the MRR structure, and neuron switching is achieved by the electrical actuation of this material. The nonlinear activation function of the neuron is extracted through three-dimensional electrical and optical simulations.
