Ultraviolet dual comb spectroscopy: a roadmap

Abstract: Dual Comb Spectroscopy proved its versatile capabilities in molecular fingerprinting in different spectral regions, but not yet in the ultraviolet (UV). Unlocking this spectral window would expand fingerprinting to the electronic energy structure of matter. This will access the prime triggers of photochemical reactions with unprecedented spectral resolution. In this research article, we discuss the milestones marking the way to the first UV dual comb spectrometer. We present experimental and simulated studies … Show more

“…Ultrafast thin-disk oscillators have been demonstrated with average powers approaching 300 W and peak powers as high as 62 MW. Extension toward UV and VUV range 44 , 45 , seems especially promising taking into account the power scalability of our platform and excellent mutual coherence of the two combs.…”

“…TDL oscillators are promising sources for this purpose since their high peak power allows for efficient nonlinear conversion toward MIR or UV wavelengths, which are of high interest for many spectroscopy applications. [120,121] The first steps on this path were made in 2019 [66] by the demonstration of the highest average power dual-comb laser based on a KLM TDL oscillator. The dual-comb cavity was based on splitting both end mirrors while the rest of the cavity components remained shared.…”

“…The two pulse-picking fiber-based amplifiers include acousto-optic modulators that reduce the seed repetition rates by a factor of eight, resulting in repetition rates of frep,I = 10 MHz and frep,II = 10 MHz + 0.75 Hz, respectively. Subsequently, the two-stage, chirped-pulse amplification setups enhance the average power of the pulse trains up to 19.3 W preserving the comb structure of the seeds 35 . With a pulse duration smaller than 250 fs (FWHM sech 2 -fit) of the amplified pulses, we can efficiently generate the third harmonic of the fundamental light.…”
