Under Which Conditions Can Recordings of the Atmospheric Electric Conductivity Be Regarded as Indicator of Particulate Air Pollution?

Abstract: It is shown that number density of Aitken nuclei, fine-sized aerosol particles, and visibility range, i.e. particulate air pollution in general, cannot be simply derived from the total conductivity. Additional meteorological parameters will have to be considered most accurately. This concerns mainly fog which needs to be taken strictly into account not only at mountain stations but also in coastal regions and on islands.
