Abstract:Arabidopsis uracil phosphoribosyltransferase (UPP) has been identified as an essential protein with a previously unknown moonlighting activity. By analysis of UPP amiRNA mutants, we first confirmed a vital function of UPP in chloroplast development and growth which seems unrelated to nucleotide homeostasis since nucleotide levels were not altered in the mutants. Impaired photosynthesis and reductions in carbohydrate contents in these mutants resulted in an inability to induce flavonoid biosynthesis after high … Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
