Urban Formation Process and the First City Planning in Modern Mining and Industrial City

Abstract: This study analyzes the conversion process of the waterfront area from mining to industry in prewar Ube City, focusing on the differences between the east and west of Majime River. On the west, the mining was consolidated at an early stage and reclamation and railroad construction progressed, which influenced the location of new factories in the 1920-30s.
