Urban rainfall characteristics and permeable pavement structure optimization for sponge road in North China

Abstract: Permeable asphalt pavement types are generally selected according to local traffic volume and rainfall intensity. This study focuses on the design of the pavement drainage asphalt pavement combination scheme by analyzing the rainfall characteristics of the corresponding five representative cities in North China. Furthermore, nine kinds of drainage pavement scheme applicable to the Beijing are proposed. To this end, the permeable function design analysis, as well as the bearing capacity design analysis of perme… Show more

“…Cement can avoid forming a porous structure in the aggregate, which can increase the contact area between asphalt and aggregate. The adhesion of diabase is lower than that of basalt, which has a certain impact on water damage, and other properties are excellent, which is a relatively high-quality raw material for pavement engineering [14][15][16] . By adding cement, the adhesion of diabase porous asphalt mixture is improved.…”

“…However, given the lack of available details on supporting drainage facilities and schemes for permeable pavements, the drainage process of the storage water in the permeable pavements and underlayment was simplified in this study. Thus, further research will consider improving the simulation of the seepage and drainage process in the permeable pavements and underlayment (Li et al 2021) to establish the connection of the storage water with the surface runoff and drainage system.…”

“…However, due to the incompleteness of the rainfall-runoff processes, most of those models are inappropriate for simulating stormwater and pluvial flood conditions. Therefore, a category of coupled hydrologicalhydrodynamic models represented by SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) has been developed to simulate the surface rainfall-runoff processes in urban catchments (Li et al 2021). In addition, the MIKE FLOOD model (Hossain et al 2020) enables multi-directional coupling of the drainage network, urban surface, and river channel so that the flood propagation in urban areas can be accurately modeled.…”

“…In recent years, cities are more susceptible to floods and water pollution after heavy rainfall due to the widely paved dense graded pavements in cities . Porous asphalt (PA) pavement is a type of porous pavement construction with well-developed interconnected voids that may effectively minimize surface stormwater runoff and alleviate urban floods and is now being implemented and promoted vigorously .…”
