With economic expansion having moderated to a “new normal” pace, the eastern coastal provinces have been given a new historical task of high-quality development and become a window and frontier of China’s high-quality development. By designing and optimizing an index system of high-quality development levels and using the entropy-TOPSIS method, the study selected 21 indicators, include economic vitality, residents’ living standards, innovation efficiency and green development, and took China’s eastern coastal provinces as an example to study the characteristics of spatial-temporal variations in the high-quality development level from 2010 to 2020. Then, the study used the obstacle degree model to explore the factors that are obstacles to high-quality development. The results show that the high-quality development of the eastern coastal provinces presents an “up-down-up” fluctuation, with an increase of 40.1%. In particular, the development level of the residents’ living standards dimension is higher, and the high-quality development level of each province shows different degrees of growth and gradually tends to balanced development, with the high-quality development of Shanghai, Jiangsu Province and Zhejiang Province in a dominant position. The spatial pattern of high-quality development in the study areas shows a spatial distribution pattern of “high in the east and low in the west, high in the north and low in the south”, in which the bipolar spatial effect of the innovation efficiency dimension is becoming more and more prominent, while the regional synergistic development effect of the residents’ living standard dimension is more obvious, and the high-quality development spatial pattern shows a “core-periphery” structure, and there is a path-dependent effect in time change, and agglomeration is produced by trickle-down effect in space. The obstacles to residents’ living standards are high, and the main obstacle factor has gradually changed from insufficient output in innovation to a reduction in the scale of foreign trade. In addition, the problems of unreasonable industrial structure and shortage of per capita public cultural resources still exist. In provinces with a high-quality development level and a relatively developed economy, the biggest obstacle factors are economic vitality and residents’ living standards. In provinces with a low level of high-quality development and a relatively backward economy, the biggest obstacle factors are green development and innovation efficiency, and there are both similarities and differences in the main obstacle factors among provinces.

Introduction Under the trends toward globalisation, human settlement has increasingly become a key risk factor influencing human life. The equal relationship between human beings and the environment is an important support to improve the resilience of human settlement environment, and the resilience of community human settlement environment is an important determinant to cope with the pressure of globalisation. Thus, focusing on the principal contradictions of community development under the pressure of globalisation, this study explores the connotation of community resilience oriented towards the supply-demand mismatch between community residents' health activities and environment, constructs an organically integrated theoretical framework and evaluation indicator system. Methods This study takes downtown Shanghai as an example, relying on 2018 land use data, Dorray Sport APP data, geospatial data and urban statistics as data sources, adopting the AHP-entropy weight method and the square grid method; a comprehensive community human settlement resilience index (CRI) model based on the DPSIR model is built to quantitatively analyse the spatial and temporal distribution of community human settlement resilience (CR), and the coupling relation between driving factors and human settlement resilience is quantitatively analysed by using tools such as the geographical detector and Origin software. Results i) the scores of CR showed a "slide-shaped" fluctuation difference situation; ii) the spatial pattern of CR showed a "pole-core agglomeration and radiation" type and a "ring-like agglomeration and radiation" type. iii) Distance to bus stops, average annual temperature, CO2 emissions, building density and number of jogging trajectories are the dominant factors affecting the resilience level of community human settlement. Conclusion From the perspective of the supply-demand mismatch between health activities and environment, this paper attempts to offer a general reference for the compilation of similar human settlement evaluation systems in various countries, by sorting out the international experience in the compilation, analysis and calibration of relevant human settlement factor tables, putting forward a new approach for the study of healthy human settlement in communities, which provides references for the constellation of assessments of building healthy community and healthy city all over the world.

This study used both temperature-humidity and wind efficiency indices at three time-scale resolutions (year, season, and month) for the first time, to analyze the spatio–temporal evolution of urban climate comfort in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA). The main factors affecting human-settlement climate comfort were elucidated and the annual changes in both indices used in the study area exhibited fluctuating growth from 2005 to 2020. Moreover, the annual growth of the temperature-humidity and wind efficiency indices in the southern cities of the GBA was relatively fast. In contrast, the annual growth of these indices in the northern cities of the GBA was relatively slow. Overall, the climate of the human-settlement environments in the GBA was the most comfortable in spring and autumn, and summer and winter were characterized by hot and cold climate conditions, respectively. We did not identify any prominent change in the climate comfort of spring and autumn from 2005 to 2020; however, the climate comfort degree deteriorated in summer and ameliorated in winter. On a monthly scale, the human-settlement environments in the GBA were the coldest in December and the hottest in July. The urban human settlements were cold in January and February, hot in May, June, August, and September, and the most comfortable in March, April, October, and November in 2020. We analyzed the factors affecting the climate comfort of human-settlement environments in the study area and found that elevation, gross industrial production, population scale, and construction land area were the most influential parameters. Notably, the impact of natural factors on the climate comfort of human-settlement environments was more significant than that of anthropogenic factors. Moreover, the related factors affected the temperature-humidity index more strongly than the wind efficiency index. Overall, our results provide data-driven guidelines for improving the climate comfort of urban human settlements in the GBA.
