“…In the same period, it declined in the almost completely rural districts of Labiau in the Regierungsbezirk Konigsberg from 2,512 to 2,132, in Oletzko in the Regierungsbezirk Gumbinnen from 2,115 to 1,311, and in Obornik in the Regierungsbezirk Posen from 2,131 to 1,527. 4 In a previous study, I found a strong correlation between the violent crime rates of Prussian Regierungsbezirke in the 1880s and the early 1900s (r > .6) but not between property crime rates and other crime rates, like that of crimes against the state (McHale and Johnson 1976). Other scholars like Howard Zehr have noted this as well, though I think that Zehr's (1976: 105) statement that "the biggest single cause of variance in assault rates" was regional tradition is perhaps overstating the case.…”

“…Various cross-national studies support the specific hypothesis that crime frequencies relate cross-culturally to social differentiation (see Bacon, Child, and Barry 1963;Blackwell 1971;Wolf 1971;Kraus 1973;McHale and Johnson 1977;Shelley 1980Shelley , 1981bBlackwelder and Johnson 1982;Cohen and Johnson 1982;Archer and Gartner 1984;Shichor 1985).…”

“…Es la imagen de un Otro peligroso que establece el desorden dentro de la percepción física y simbólica del espacio social. Diferentes formas de "criminalidad" (como la prostitución, el alcoholismo y la locura) fueron consideradas subproductos de las nuevas clases trabajadoras (McHale y Johnson, 1976). En segundo lugar, una solución biomédica a esas circunstancias fue posible debido al estado especial de la medicina en la tradición científi ca alemana.…”
