Urodynamic and Histological Changes in a Sterile Rabbit Vesicoureteral Reflux Model

Abstract: This study aimed to investigate pressure changes of renal pelvis and histological change of kidneys in a surgically induced sterile rabbit vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) model. Five rabbits served as a control group, 7 as the sham-operated group, and 8 served as the VUR group. Three weeks later, urodynamic studies were performed, and histological examinations evaluated degree of inflammation, fibrosis, and tubular damage in the kidneys. At a low infusion rate, renal pelvic pressure in the VUR group was stable unt… Show more

“…The five cell lines used cover a large range of commonly used target cells for the cultivation of a broad spectrum of viruses and originate from different cell types, tissues, and species. The epithelial CRFK cells, which originate from the renal cortex, grew on Wellbricks in several layers in a cuboidal (upper layers) to squamous (lower layers) morphology, which can also be observed in the transitional epithelium of the renal pelvis [ 41 ]. In contrast, Vero cells, which also originate from the kidney, showed a cuboidal, single-layered cell growth typical of most of the kidney epithelium, e.g., for collecting ducts [ 42 ].…”

“…According to the literature, the parameters for normal rabbit bladder are as follows: volume, approximately 25 mL; compliance, approximately 4 mL/cmH 2 O; and maximum voiding pressure, approximately 38 cmH 2 O . DSnB catheters were then randomly inserted into the bladders via the genitalia, which were sterilized using chlorhexidine gluconate, to a 3 cm depth from the point at which outflow of urine occurred . The distal end of the DSnB catheter outside the body was fixed to the lower abdomen with elastic tape.…”

“…12 DSnB catheters were then randomly inserted into the bladders via the genitalia, which were sterilized using chlorhexidine gluconate, to a 3 cm depth from the point at which outflow of urine occurred. 12 The distal end of the DSnB catheter outside the body was fixed to the lower abdomen with elastic tape. Urine retained in bladders was aspirated using a syringe to empty the bladder and was used for bacterial culture testing.…”
