Digital technology and its use in architecture support the construction industry in transitioning to more sustainable building development. Digital technology is widely taught in architecture programs in China, but there are few consistent strategies for combining digital architectural design with traditional architectural design in architectural education. Consequently, sustainable design concepts are not included in digital architectural design courses, and thus architectural education is not concerned with sustainable development. In this paper, we focus on the teaching of digital design in architecture and investigate how digital architectural design teaching can incorporate sustainability. Data from 15 universities were qualitatively analyzed, leading to the development of four models of teaching digital architectural design. Development of the models revealed that there are three increasing levels in digital architectural design teaching and that there is a close relationship between the teaching level and the transfer of architectural knowledge. This recognition led to the development of a single comprehensive model of digital architectural design teaching that is universally applicable. This research increases our understanding of digital architectural design teaching in architecture programs and strengthens the multi-level connections between digital architectural design teaching and designing and constructing sustainable built objects.

While Virtual Reality (VR) technology has experienced a recent growth in interest and offers immense potential in a number of domains, there is still insufficient information on the acceptance and adoption of this technology among individual users. The purpose of this chapter is to examine the acceptance and adaptation of people using VR technology in the construction industry and to identify factors that prevent VR technology from being adopted more widely in the construction industry. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to approach this research problem among 15 students and academic staff members at two universities. The results of this research indicate that VR technology is acceptable to people who work in the construction industry. However, there are barriers to further adoption of VR technology, namely high VR hardware and software requirements, low affordability, and low accessibility. This research also proposes several resolutions to these barriers, including preparing facilities by construction industries and universities, providing software and hardware requirements for VR technologies, and decreasing the price of VR devices. The results of this research are of immense value to suppliers and companies affiliated with this technology. Further research is required to demonstrate the functionality of VR technology in the construction industry.

Beyond of BIM technology consolidation, the incorporation of virtual reality in the field of architecture and construction implies a new breakthrough which implies several advantages both at professional and academic levels. With the aim to measure the potential of this technology, a set of immersive activities were performed at the University of Lleida in the degree of Technical Architecture and Buildings. From the results, it could be observed the great ease of students in learning the use of virtual reality tools and the great potential of these solutions not only in learning architecture and construction but also as a professional working tool, especially for the design phases.ResumenMás allá de la consolidación de la tecnología BIM, la incorporación de la realidad virtual en el campo de la arquitectura y la construcción implica un nuevo avance que conlleva varias ventajas tanto a nivel profesional como académico. Con el objetivo de medir el potencial de esta tecnología, se realizaron un conjunto de actividades inmersivas en el grado de Arquitectura Técnica y Edificación de la Universidad de Lleida. A partir de los resultados, se pudo observar la gran facilidad de los estudiantes para aprender el uso de herramientas de realidad virtual y el gran potencial de estas soluciones no solo en el aprendizaje de arquitectura y construcción, sino también como una herramienta de trabajo profesional, especialmente para las fases de diseño.
