Use of glass fiber post and composite resin in restoration of a vertical fractured tooth

Abstract: Combined coronal and vertical root fractures are difficult to treat and extraction of the affected tooth is quite often indicated. In anterior teeth, esthetics and function must be reestablished immediately. This case describes the restoration of a fractured upper right central incisor using a glass fiber post and adhesive composite. At the follow-up appointment, 13 months later, clinical and radiographical examinations revealed the glass fiber post and restoration in place, suggesting the efficacy of the trea… Show more

“…It is important to remember that a conservative approach should be planned for the residual tissue to achieve clinical success of the prosthetic restoration (7–12). In the case described the prognosis of the severely damaged teeth, whilst still uncertain, has been improved thanks to the use of fiber posts and self‐adhesive resin cement, increasing post retention and reinforcing the teeth structure.…”

“…In addition to the similarity in elasticity to that of dentin (39), the ability to cement glass fibers with adhesive is very important, along with the good esthetic results (40). Moreover, Fidel et al (41) used glass fiber and composite resin to restore a vertically fractured tooth. In our case, glass fiber was used to increase retention of the reattached crown fragment.…”
