Use of Intercepted Runoff Depth for Stormwater Runoff Management in Industrial Parks in Taiwan

Abstract: First flush of stormwater runoff plays an important role in water quality management. Since stormwater runoff during the initial period of precipitation events carries a greater portion of pollution loads, appropriate strategies are needed for effectively controlling the non-point source loads (NPS). In the present study, case studies were performed in two industrial parks for correlating the relationship between pollutant mass and the runoff volume. Three precipitation events were used for calibration and ver… Show more

“…Notably, a review of stormwater quality modeling tools other than SWMM was provided by Borah and Bera (2004). A variety of water quality constituents have been investigated using SWMM, including total suspended solids (TSS) (Borris et al 2014;Chang et al 2008;Chow et al 2012), nitrogen compounds (Burian et al 2001(Burian et al , 2002Chang et al 2008;Jia et al 2014), heavy metals (Borris et al 2014;Fallah Shorshani et al 2014), dissolved oxygen (DO) and biochemical oxygen Demand (BOD) (Kirshen et al 2014), and phosphorous (Chow et al 2012;Jia et al 2014). The water quality constituents considered in these studies are summarized in Tables 1 and 2.…”

“…The purpose of water quality investigations using SWMM have included (1) determining the effects from nonpoint pollution (Jia et al 2014;Oraei Zare et al 2012;Choi et al 2006), (2) BMP/LIDs treatment (Chang et al 2008;Jia et al 2014;Oraei Zare et al 2012;Van der Sterren et al 2014), (3) air quality interactions (Burian et al 2001(Burian et al , 2002Fallah Shorshani et al 2014), (4) climate/land use change effects (Borris et al 2014), (5) first flush effects (Chang et al 2008;Ouyang et al 2012;Young et al 2010), (6) monitoring the program design (Talei et al 2010), (7) traditional stormwater management structure performance (Borris et al 2014), and (8) spatial resolution effects (Fallah Shorshani et al 2014;Park et al 2008;.…”

“…Pet feces that is not properly managed can provide an additional source of nutrients and pathogens to runoff [49]. Finally, industrial parks contribute pollutants that correspond to the industrial processes that occur on-site and can include metals and organic chemicals [55][56][57].…”

“…In the literature, there are many studies related to water quantity and quality modeling by using EPA SWMM (Gülbaz and Kazezyılmaz-Alhan, 2008). Chang et al (2008) formed a model by using EPA SWMM for two industrial parks in Taiwan in order to correlate the relationship between pollutant mass and the runoff volume. Aad et al (2010) developed new modeling techniques for two BMPs, which are rain gardens and rain barrels, implemented in EPA SWMM.…”
