User Characteristics and Effectiveness of a Park and Ride Facility in Bangkok

Abstract: An experimental project was initiated in Bangkok in 2015 to set up Park and Ride facilities near transit stations as part of an effort to encourage transit use. Incentives were offered to prospective users, including free one-month trial and free transit trips. This paper provides evidence on user characteristics of one of the facilities and its effectiveness in time savings and reducing car travel. After the free-trial period ended, approximately 45% of the users discontinued their use. The results from inter… Show more

“…For example, by applying geographic information systems (GIS) technology to delimit the catchment areas and calculate the access distances to the respective stations and questionnaires and using MapInfo and ArcView GIS 3.2, the catchment areas of the respective facilities were delimited. The result is the visualization and coverage of the catchment areas of the P&R system [80,81]. Most research on the catchment area of the P&R system has focused on the Parabola method.…”

“…Saksith và cs. [3] đã thực hiện khảo sát phỏng vấn người sử dụng tại địa điểm Krungthonburi thuộc thành phố Băng Cốc (Thái Lan) cho thấy có tới 90% số lượng hành khách sử dụng giải pháp P&R để tham gia dịch vụ GTCC. Tương tự, Hamid [4] thực hiện khảo sát ở khu liên đô thị của thành phố Kuala Lumpur cho thấy khoảng từ 80 đến 95% lượng hành khách sử dụng giải pháp P&R để tham gia dịch vụ GTCC.…”

“…The visual complexity of the signs on a map is taken into account in the design of navigation-oriented maps, identifying the coverage area of a P & R system and the location of information signs [31]. In fact, the majority of authors have investigated the catchment area through the use of a geometric shape such as a parabola, circle, and hyperbola, and thus the equations corresponding to these geometric shapes have also been used [32,33]. The geometric shape that a circle or hyperbola adopts is associated with the radius of the figure.…”
