User Contribution in Innovation Processes - Reflections from a Living Lab Perspective

Abstract: This paper discusses user contribution in innovation processes from a Living Lab perspective. In this paper we focus on methods and techniques for user contribution in innovation processes by discussing experiences based on 100 activities conducted within four different research projects. (3) identified several issues regarding different kinds of user contribution and types of users that need to be considered in Living Labs. The purpose of this paper is to discuss our experiences of methods and techniques for … Show more

“…Svensson et al [34], in line with the European Network of Living Labs (ENOLL), consider a Living Lab not only as a methodology, but also as an organization, an environment, a system in itself, where innovation might take place. Recently, the concept of Living Labs is expanding, from research contexts at knowledge institutions or in private sector research and development, towards complex socio-spatial contexts [24].…”

“…In the words of Eriksson, Niitamo, and Kulkki, the idea of a living lab is a "user-centric research methodology for sensing, prototyping, validating, and refining complex solutions in multiple and evolving real-life contexts" [33]; therefore, it establishes a good ground on the idea of implementing the living lab methodology in designing smart city services. In the end, it can be understood that living labs work as an idea that can be actualized into a process, a methodology, a framework, or even a space, which relies on the nature of the requirement [34][35][36].…”
