User Friendly Automatic Construction of Background Knowledge

Abstract: One of the key advantages of Inductive Logic Programming systems is the ability of the domain experts to provide background knowledge as modes that allow for efficient search through the space of hypotheses. However, there is an inherent assumption that this expert should also be an ILP expert to provide effective modes. We relax this assumption by designing a graphical user interface that allows the domain expert to interact with the system using Entity Relationship diagrams. These interactions are used to co… Show more

“…Site REUs and research group affiliated REUs have contributed to seven full conference papers [3,10,12,16,18,22,24] -including 3 highly competitive conferences [3,16,18] and a best paper award [24]. In addition, they have presented 3 workshop papers [2,7,21] and placed in the ACM Undergraduate Research Competition at SIGCHI [5,27]).…”

“…In this way, all users operate on the same data, being able to consult in real time the data that other users have been able to modify. Figure 3 shows the entity/relationship diagram using a flowchart [40] in which the relationships and interactions between the entities involved in the process are observed.…”

“…Other scientists (Alexander L. Hayes, Mayukh Das, Phillip Odom and Sriraam Natarajan) have proposed a convenient automatic construction of background knowledge by constructing a mode from ER diagrams. The authors have developed a graphical user interface that allows a domain expert to interact with the system using entity relationship diagrams used to build modes for the learning system [5].…”
