This study used fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) to evaluate students’ performance in an environmental economics course under the mode of online and offline blended teaching (OOBT). OOBT was a new teaching mode combining traditional offline teaching with online teaching platform, which could improve students’ after-class learning efficiency and eliminate the limitations of traditional classroom teaching by using an online teaching platform. However, at present, the evaluation methods of OOBT students’ achievement have been scarce. Therefore, this article adopted FAHP to evaluate students’ performance under OOBT. The evaluated course was environmental economics. The results showed that FAHP was not completely dependent on students’ paper scores, and could evaluate students’ scores from group work, attendance, class discussions, and other aspects. The use of OOBT and FAHP led to overall improvement in students’ scores, the average score increased by 7.38, and 81.55% of students were in the middle grade. The case study showed that the integration of FAHP into OOBT could scientifically assign the weight of each evaluation index, make complex performance evaluation problems organized, and fully reflect the comprehensive quality of students. It could also understand students’ dynamics in time, and continuously optimize the course structure according to the feedback information.

Selecting a vaccine for fighting a pandemic is one of the serious issues in healthcare. Novel decision models for vaccine selection need to be developed. In this study, a novel vaccine selection decision-making model (VSDMM) was proposed and developed, based on the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) technique, which assesses many alternatives (vaccines) using multi-criteria to support decision making. To feed data to the VSDMM, six coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) vaccines were selected in a case study to highlight the applicability of the proposed model. Each vaccine was compared to the others with respect to six criteria and all criteria were compared to calculate the relative weights. The proposed criteria include (1) vaccine availability; (2) vaccine formula; (3) vaccine efficacy; (4) vaccine-related side effects; (5) cost savings, and (6) host-related factors. Using the selected criteria, experts responded to questions and currently available COVID-19 vaccines were ranked according to their weight in the model. A sensitivity analysis was introduced to assess the model robustness and the impacts of changing criteria weights on the results. The VSDMM is flexible in terms of its ability to accept more vaccine alternatives and/or more criteria. It could also be applied to other current or future pandemics/epidemics in the world. In conclusion, this is the first report to propose a VSDMM for selecting the most suitable vaccines in pandemic/epidemic situations or any other situations in which vaccine selection and usage may be deemed necessary.

BACKGROUND: This study investigates the adsorption of methylene blue (MB) and malachite green (MG) onto a novel biosorbent. Rapid industrialization pollutes water resources, causing serious environmental problems. Physical and chemical treatments were performed for biosorbent modification.RESULTS: In the present work, nano (n)TiO 2 was inserted into chitosan (Cts)-epichlorohydrin (ECH)-plum kernel shell (PKS) and the final product was characterized by various modern techniques such as Fourier transform infrared, X-ray diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. Under optimized conditions, the maximum adsorption capacities of MB and MG by Cht/PKS/nTiO 2 -ECH (termed nTiO 2 -Composite) determined by the Langmuir model were 86.96 and 108.70 mg g −1 , respectively. Thermodynamic parameters such as ΔG°, ΔH°, ΔS°and E a were calculated, confirming the interaction of dyes with nTiO 2 -Composite as exothermic and spontaneous.CONCLUSIONS: This study shows that the newly synthesized nTiO 2 -Composite has a very high performance in dye removal.
