Using non-contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance venography for the evaluation of May-Thurner syndrome in patients with renal insufficiency

Abstract: Rationale: Contrast-enhanced computed tomographic venography (CTV) or magnetic resonance venography (MRV) are usually used to detect May-Thurner syndrome (MTS). However, both are associated with contrast-induced nephrotoxicity. For patients who cannot receive contrast media, non-contrast-enhanced MRV using three-dimensional (3D) turbo spin-echo (TSE) is considered an alternative. We report a case of MTS to describe its clinical utility and advantages.Patient concerns: A 49-year-old male experienced isolated le… Show more

“…Our preliminary experience highlights that TRANCE-MRI may be safe and useful for imaging the lower extremities, especially in venous pathology [ 14 ]. TRANCE-MRI would be particularly suitable for patients with chronic renal insufficiency, a history of abdominal/pelvic/orthopaedic surgery, or allergies to contrast media [ 13 ].…”

“…The arteries appeared black with systolic triggering. The TRANCE-MRI result of the venous system was a data set, in which no subtraction was required [ 13 ]. A quantitative flow scan was routinely performed to determine the appropriate trigger delay times for systolic and diastolic triggering [ 14 ].…”

“…Основным недостатком US, по мнению подавляющего числа авторов, является недостаточная чувствительность метода при развитии тромбоза в тазовых венах [13,14]. Еще меньшую информативность от US следует ожидать при развитии внешнего окклюзионного сдавления при синдроме Мея-Тернера [15,16]. Кроме того, по мнению многих авторов, US обладает и некоторыми другими недостатками.…”
