Using Sediment Deposited in Small Reservoirs to Quantify Sediment Yield in Two Small Catchments of Iran

Abstract: Sediment deposition in reservoirs is a serious off-site consequence of soil erosion in Semnan Province, Iran. So far insufficient and less reliable sediment yield data have been collected for these regions. The large number of available sediment deposition rates in reservoirs makes the use of reservoir sediments very attractive for regional-scale studies of sediment delivery. This paper however discusses a methodology combination of both source fingerprinting technique and reservoir sediment survey to provide … Show more

“…The EPM model (Erosion Potential Method) was developed by Gavrilovic in 1988 and has been used in several studies (Ahmed et al, 2019;Amini et al, 2014;Efthimiou & Lykoudi, 2016;Kouhpeima et al, 2011;Othman et al, 2023;Pavlova-Traykova, 2022;Zahnoun et al, 2019). This method is based on three essential factors: the temperature coefficient (T), the mean annual precipitation (H), and the potential erosion parameter (Z).…”

“…Erosion, sediment yield and siltation have been studied by several researchers [8] [14]- [19]. The majority have been focused on the characterization and regionalization of siltation, and they have been tried to produce practical models and monograph for each area [9] [12] [20]- [24]. Some researchers are oriented to identification and assessment of rate's erosion based on geometric, hydrological, lithological, geomorphological and climatic characteristics of the watershed [25]- [30].…”
