UV Index experimental values on vertical surfaces

Abstract: UV erythemal irradiance (UVER) has been studied on a horizontal plane and on vertical surfaces with different orientations in Valencia, Spain. The evolution of the solar noon value and the maximum daily value over a year has been analysed from the instantaneous UVER taken every five minutes on the horizontal plane and on vertical surfaces with north, south, east and west orientations. The annual evolution of these values shows a sinusoidal form for all planes except for the vertical south plane with maxima in … Show more

“…To calculate the erythema effective irradiance on inclined surfaces, the isotropic model and anisotropic models of Schauberger, Gueymard, Muneer and Perez were chosen based on Yang's review of 26 models and validations of the models for inclined surfaces in Valencia, Spain, (39.5°N, 0.418°W) that showed good agreement with experimental data. Detailed description of these models could be found elsewhere.…”

“…Minimum SZAs at that place may have reached about 45.5°. Measurements of erythemal irradiance incident on vertical planes at four azimuth directions performed at the southern European site Valencia (Spain) at a latitude of 39.5°N, where minimum noontime SZA at summer solstice reaches 16°( 39.5-23.5), showed values around 0.4 at high Sun in summer [Utrillas et al, 2012].…”
