Validação dos dados de precipitação estimados pelo trmm, para a microrregião de ourinhos – São Paulo / Validation of rainfall data estimated by trmm, for the micro-region of ourinhos – Sao Paulo

Abstract

The growth of information for obtaining climatological data has grown due to the increase in meteorological stations for data collection, but not all areas have this coverage, especially on a larger scale. One of the biggest concerns found in climatological studies is related to the existence (or not) of consistent data. Satellite precipitation estimates have been proposed in several scientific works, contributing as an important tool for data consistency, constituting an extremely useful tool. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of rainfall estimates from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite for the micro-region of Ourinhos, located in the State of São Paulo, where it covers about 15 municipalities, and to verify the reliability of the data in relation to data observed on the surface of conventional meteorological stations of the National Water Agency (ANA), for the period 2002 to 2012 in monthly intervals. The results showed that the TRMM satellite can be used as an alternative source of information about the scarcity of data from surface stations.
