Validating the Persian Intuitive Eating Scale-2 Among Breast Cancer Survivors Who Are Overweight/Obese

Abstract: Women with breast cancer are at risk of being overweight/obese which may consequently increase mortality. Intuitive eating is an adaptive eating behavior which might be beneficial for weight outcomes. The present study validated the Persian Intuitive Eating Scale-2 (IES-2) among overweight/obese Iranian females with breast cancer. Women who were overweight/obese with breast cancer (n = 762; mean ± SD age = 55.1 ± 5.7 years) completed the following questionnaires: IES-2, General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE-6), Hos… Show more

“…For an assessment of the indicators of reliability, Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega coefficients were used, with values above 0.70 used as a reference. The statistics software Factor 10.10.1 (Ferrando & Lorenzo-Seva, 2017) and MPLUS (Muthén & Muthén, 2017) were used.…”

“…Lastly, it is worth highlighting the benefits of evaluating the psychometric properties of the K10 using classical test theory (CFA, reliability analysis, and relationship with external variables) and modern test theory (RSM). As indicated by the literature (Lin et al, 2019;Nejati et al, 2020), the use of different test theories helps to expand knowledge regarding the psychometric properties of the instrument. Thus, if on one hand classical test methods allowed the estimation of validity evidence based on the internal structure, relationship with external variables and reliability, on the other hand, the modern test methods allowed greater understanding of the properties of the items comprising the K10, better organization of the content of the items in the continuum that represents psychological distress, and the estimation of the characteristics of the respondents independently of the characteristics of the test.…”

“…In this study, we extended our psychometric evaluation to Rasch analysis. Despite both CTT and Rasch analyses being used for psychometric evaluation, they have different statistical assumptions [ 26 , 29 ]. Therefore, it is important to provide psychometric information from both analyses to ensure that the instrument is robust and rigorous [ 26 , 29 ].…”

“…Several fit indices were used to examine the data-model fit in the CFA: comparative fit index (CFI) > 0.9, Tucker–Lewis index (TLI) > 0.9, root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) < 0.08, and standardized root mean square residual (SRMR) < 0.08 [ 24 , 25 ]. Alongside the CFA, composite reliability (acceptable value > 0.6) and average variance extracted (acceptable value > 0.5) were calculated using the CFA factor loadings [ 26 ].…”
