Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is one of the main public health issues. It increases the morbidity and mortality of patients. Treatment includes multiple aspects such as dialysis and lifestyle modifications. The primary goal of this study was to determine factors associated with self-efficacy and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among haemodialysis (HD) patients. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive correlation study was conducted on CKD patients undergoing HD at 12 different dialysis centres in Palestine. Self-efficacy was assessed by the Self-Efficacy for Managing Chronic Disease Six-Item Scale (SEMCD-6), and HRQoL was assessed using the Five-level EuroQol Five-Dimensions (EQ-5D-5L) tool. Multiple linear regression analysis was carried out to assess the association of factors with each of the SEMCD-6 and HRQoL scale scores. Results: A total of 283 HD patients were included in the study. A correlation test revealed moderately positive association between the EQ-5D and SEMCD-6 scores (r = 0.497, p value < 0.001). In multiple linear regression analysis, age, living status, and number of co-morbid diseases were negatively associated with SEMCD-6 scores (β = − 2.66, p = 0.016; β = − 5.71, p = 0.033; β = − 1.84, p = 0.006, respectively). Furthermore, there is a positive association between educational level and SEMCD-6 score with QoL score (β = 0.05, p = 0.017; β = 0.01, p < 0.001, respectively), while there is a negative association between the number of co-morbid diseases and QoL score (β = − 0.07, p = 0.001).Conclusions: This study assessed factors associated with impaired self-efficacy and HRQoL in HD patients. The results show that impaired self-efficacy was associated with the elderly, patients living with family, and patients with a high number of co-morbid diseases. Furthermore, this study found that the worst HRQoL was associated with patients with a low education level, lower levels of self-efficacy, and a high number of co-morbid diseases.

ÖZETAmaç: Bu araştırma, hemodiyaliz tedavisi alan bireylerin sıvı kısıtlamasına uyum düzeylerini değerlendirmek ve sıvı kısıtlamasına uyumu etkileyen faktörleri belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Results: It was found that individuals receiving hemodialysis had a moderate level of concordance with fluid restriction (51.23±5.88); they had high levels of knowledge regarding fluid restriction (20.22±1.07); and they had a moderate level of concordance in terms of behavioral aspects (22.42±4.23), but low levels of concordance in terms of the attitudes aspect (8.59±2.61). Individuals' concordance with fluid restriction was found to be influenced by gender and marital status; knowledge level was found to be influenced by gender and treatment duration, and behavior was significantly influenced by gender. Women, in comparison to men, were found to have higher concordance levels in terms of knowledge, behavior and total fluid control aspects; single patients' level of concordance with total fluid control was higher compared to married patients, and the level of knowledge about fluid control was lower in patients who had had a treatment duration of 6 months to 2 years, in comparison with other groups. Interdialytic weight gain decreased with increasingly concordant attitudes and total scores for fluid control, and the amount of ultrafiltration needed decreased with the increase in behavior and total scores. Gereç ve Conclusion:It was found that individuals who received hemodialysis were not adequately concordant with fluid restriction. Individualized training and practice is required to increase concordance with fluid restriction.

GraphInterdialytic weight gain Maintenance haemodialysis Patient adherence a b s t r a c t Purpose: To design interdialytic and daily weight gain graphs for patients on maintenance haemodialysis and to evaluate their effect on patient adherence to restricted fluid intake. Methods: Forty-five patients on maintenance haemodialysis were recruited from August to October 2012. The graphs were applied for 12 weeks based on Bandura's self-efficacy theory. Adherence to restricted fluid intake, dialysis adequacy, and satisfaction were compared before and after the graphs were applied. Results: Adherence to restricted fluid intake increased from 53.3% to 91.1%; the mean rate of urea clearance (Kt/V) decreased from 1.197 to 1.311, and the qualified rate increased from 42.5% to 70%. The rate of adherence was 86.77%; acceptance and satisfaction rates were 100%. Conclusion: It is acceptable to apply the graphs clinically for subsequent effective improvement of adherence to restricted fluid intake, promoting dialysis adequacy, and increasing patient satisfaction. Therefore, clinical application of the graphs is worthwhile.
