Validation of the English and Mandarin versions of the Fear of Cancer Recurrence Inventory in an Asian population

Abstract: The Fear of Cancer Recurrence Inventory has shown adequate psychometric properties to assess for fear of cancer recurrence among cancer survivors. However, the use of the Fear of Cancer Recurrence Inventory in Asia is limited due to the paucity of validation studies. Participants include 331 cancer survivors who completed the English and newly developed Mandarin versions of the Fear of Cancer Recurrence Inventory. The results revealed that both versions of the Fear of Cancer Recurrence Inventory demonstrated s… Show more

“…Relevant to FCR analysis, the finding that the FCRI is best represented as a 7‐factor first‐order model is inconsistent with recent empirical findings that support a 7‐factor second‐order model . Possible explanations for these inconsistencies may stem from differences in sample composition and size.…”

“…Possible explanations for these inconsistencies may stem from differences in sample composition and size. However, a more plausible explanation is that the current study set out to examine various dimensional models of the FCRI whereas the former studies seem only to have examined a second‐order model. In this way, the current study adds new insights into the dimensionality of the FCRI that have not previously been explored.…”
