Validation of the Korean Version of the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory-Expanded

Abstract: In this study, we tested the hypothesis that a woman who claims sexual assault would be evaluated more negatively, and the suspected man would be judged more leniently, when the woman is agentic. In addition, we expected that this phenomenon would occur because the agentic accuser does not conform to the 'sexual crime victim' stereotype or feminine norms, and considered these as mediator variables. We also postulated that male (vs. female) participants would have a less positive regard of the agentic accuser a… Show more

“…The Korean version of the PTGI-X has four domains: change in self-perception, increase in interpersonal depth, increase in spiritual and existential depth, and discovery of new possibilities. The internal consistency of the entire scale (Cronbach’s α ) was 0.90 in Kim et al (2020) study and 0.96 in the present study.…”

“…PTG was measured using the Korean version of the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory Expanded scale (PTGI-X). Originally developed as the PTGI scale ( Tedeschi and Calhoun, 1996 ), it was subsequently revised with the addition of existential items by Tedeschi et al (2017) , which was adapted into Korean and validated by Kim et al (2020) . The participants rated the positive changes they experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic on a six-point scale (0 = I did not experience this change, 1 = I experienced this change to a very small degree, 2 = I experienced this change to a small degree, 3 = I experienced this change to a moderate degree, 4 = I experienced this change to a great degree, and 5 = I experienced this change to a very great degree).…”

“…Each item is rated on a 6-point Likert scale ranging from 0 (not at all) to 5 (very much so), with higher scores indicating a more positive post-traumatic change. At the time of development, Cronbach's alpha was 0.97 in a study by Kim et al [35] and 0.969 in this study.…”

“…In this study, PTG was measured with the Korean version of the Post-traumatic Growth Inventory-Expanded (PTGI-X), an instrument developed by Tedeschi et al [6], translated into Korean by Song et al [34], and standardized by Kim et al [35].…”

“…The PTGI-X is a revised version to enhance the validity of the spiritual and existential change components of the prior version of the PTGI ( Tedeschi et al, 2017 ). In the Korean version validated by Kim et al (2020) , participants were asked to answer 25 items on a six-point Likert scale (from 1 = I did not experience this change to 6 = I experienced this change to a very great degree), which covers four domains of growth: personal strength (8 items), relating to others (5 items), new possibilities (5 items), and spiritual and existential change (7 items). To focus on assessing the pandemic-related PTG, we specified “changes after you experienced the COVID-19-related situations” in the instructions.…”
