Validity and Reliability of the Attachment Insecurity Screening Inventory (AISI) 2–5 Years

Abstract: The Attachment Insecurity Screening Inventory (AISI) 2–5 years is a parent-report questionnaire for assessing attachment insecurity in preschoolers. Validity and reliability of the AISI 2–5 years were examined in a general sample (n = 429) and in a clinical sample (n = 71). Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) confirmed a three-factor model of avoidant, ambivalent/resistant and disorganized attachment, and one higher-order factor of total attachment insecurity. Multi-group CFA indicated measurement invariance ac… Show more

“…These questionnaires were used to assess internalizing and externalizing problems in children. Internal consistency ( α ) was .95 and .96, respectively. Attachment Insecurity Screening Inventories 2–5 and 6–12 (AISI) (Polderman et al, 2008; Wissink et al, 2016). The AISI parental report screens for attachment insecurity in children.…”

“…Polderman and Kellaert-Knol [ 15 ] developed the Attachment Insecurity Screening Inventory (AISI) 2–5 years as a clinical tool to be used in attachment-based intervention, and it has also been used for scientific purposes [ 16 ]. The AISI 2–5 years is a brief 20-item parent self-report measure in Dutch, assessing the parents’ perception of the quality of the attachment relationship with their child, in particular focusing on insecurity, which was recently validated [ 17 ]. The AISI 2–5 years has not been validated in other countries.…”

“…The AISI 2–5 years has not been validated in other countries. The AISI 2–5 years [ 15 ] showed a sufficient 3-factor model fit, measurement invariance across mothers and fathers and across the general and clinical population, good internal consistency, and indicators of concurrent and convergent validity [ 17 ]. This instrument can be used for the initial screening of attachment related developmental problems in children.…”

“…If parents are perceived as affectionate, reliable, and predictable by the child, attachment develops on secure basis [17]. If the caregivers' responses are inadequate for the child's physical and emotional needs, the attachment style may be insecure or disorganized [18]. Affectionless care [19] and insecure attachment style have influences on pain perception and can increase the severity of pain and the psychological symptoms related with children's illness behaviour [20][21][22].…”
