“…Contrary to clozapine, chronic administration of therapeutic-relevant concentrations of valproate weakly increases Cx43 in the cytosol but does not affect Cx43 in the plasma membrane through inhibition of histone deacetylase (activation transcription process of Cx43) [ 3 ]. Valproate monotherapy is effective for the acute phase of bipolar disorder; however, the efficacy of valproate is inferior to that of olanzapine [ 131 ].
