Abstract: Valproate-induced hyperammonemic encephalopathy in a patient with ischemic stroke Hyperammonemic encephalopathy is a rare, life threatening complication of valproate therapy. We describe an adult male with manic disorder and alcohol dependence who developed encephalopathy within two weeks of therapy with valproate.
