“…Sharpening of the working edges took place in several cycles, which reflects a long-term maintenance strategy with the purpose of extending the service life of the tool. based on its features, it is comparable to Early Neolithic blades of La Marmotta (Fugazzola Delpino et al 1993) or Karanovo I type (Gurova 2018), as well as to Early Neolithic blades from the wider western Mediterranean area (Gassin et al 2010;Ibáñez et al 2008;Philibert et al 2014;Mazzucco et al 2016;Manen et al 2019). Comparison with the blades from central Dalmatia, on which it was proven that the differences in traces of retouching indicate differences between the Early and Middle Neolithic harvesting technologies (Mazzucco et al 2018), shows that the blade from Vorganjska peć cannot be fitted into the considered scheme.…”

“…However, some Early Neolithic sites, as La Marmotta in Central Italy and Sammardenchia in the Pô Plain, have been subject to systematic archaeobotanical studies, which allow for a substantial overview of the crop package in the coastal Central Mediterranean (Rottoli et al, 2007(Rottoli et al, , 2009. In France, the number of data is, to date, very weak (Gassin et al, 2010). In the Iberian Peninsula, several sites have yielded important and well-preserved datasets, as on the lakeshore site of La Draga in Catalonia and Cova de l'Or and Los Castillejos on the southeastern coast of the peninsula (Antolín et al, 2011(Antolín et al, , 2012Rovira, 2007).…”

“…The set of cultivated plants is highly diversified. On Cardial sites from southern France and the Iberian Peninsula, naked cereals predominate, while emmer and einkorn appear to be predominant to the east, in the Central Mediterranean (Antolín et al, 2012;Buxó, 2007;Gassin et al, 2010;Peña-Choccaro et al, 2013). However, the more or less rigorous division between hulled cereals in the Impressa culture and naked cereals in the Cardial culture needs to be confirmed by further studies.…”

“…The first Neolithic societies in southwest Europe were mainly characterized by agriculture and animal husbandry. Neolithic sites show evidence cultivation of wheat, barley ( Triticum aestivum t. compactum, Triticum aestivum/durum, Triticum dicoccum, Hordeum vulgare nudum , and Hordeum vulgare ), and legumes (white beans, Vicia fava , and peas, Pisum sativum ) (Zapata et al 2004; Gassin et al 2010; Antolín and Buxó 2012). Neolithic groups also kept several domestic animal species (sheep, Ovis aries ; goats, Capra hircus ; cattle, Bos taurus ; and swine, Sus domesticus ) (Tresset and Vigne 2007; Vigne 2007).…”
