Variability of Blazars

Abstract: Variability is one of the characteristics of blazars. The rapid variability is superposed on the long term variation. In this work, the variability on different time scales, such as intra-day (IDV), short-term (STV) and long-term (LTV) variations are presented for some sources. We also presented our own observations of some selected objects, for which the historical data were compiled for periodicity analysis using several methods. The parameters of the binary black hole system OJ 287 are determined.

“…In fusion research the theory of 'blobs' (isolated field aligned plasma structures that are similar to flux tubes but not necessarily frozen to the field) has been extensively researched [30]. Fan summarises the work on gravitational stability and flux tubes for solar convection in [31] see also [32], [33] and [34]. Much of the research on flux tubes concerns tubes in an otherwise unmagnetised plasma where circular tubes might be expected.…”

“…Blazars are an extreme subclass of active galactic nuclei (AGNs), that show rapid and large variability, high and variable polarization, superluminal motions in their radio components, and strong γ-ray emissions, etc (see Abdo et al 2009Abdo et al , 2010Ackermann et al 2011;Aller et al 2011;Bastieri et al 2011;Fan et al 1996Fan et al , 2011Ghisellini et al 2010;Gupta 2011;Marscher et al 2011;Nolan et al 2012;Romero et al 2002;Wills et al 1992;Urry 2011). There are two subclasses of blazars, namely flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) and BL Lacertae objects (BLs) with the former showing strong emission line features and the latter showing very weak emission lines or no emission lines at all.…”
