Various theranostics and immunization strategies based on nanotechnology against Covid-19 pandemic: An interdisciplinary view

Abstract: COVID-19 pandemic is still a major risk to human civilization. Besides the global immunization policy, more than 5lac new cases are documented every day. Some countries newly implement partial/complete nationwide lockdown to mitigate recurrent community spreading. To avoid the new modified stain of SARS-CoV-2 spreading, some countries imposed any restriction on the movement of the citizens within or outside the country. Effective economical point of care diagnostic and therapeutic strategy is vigorously requir… Show more

“…INO-4800, a DNA vaccine, was developed and customized by Inovio Pharmaceuticals and International Vaccine Institute, using DNA coated-PLGA nanoparticles. This vaccine is intradermally administrated through nano-based electroporation device named CELLECTRA®2000 and induces neutralizing antibodies and T cell activity (88)(89).…”

“…Thus, there is no doubt about the potential of nanotechnology [108]. Any link in the whole process of SARS-CoV-2 infecting target cells and causing disease can be targeted by nanodrugs [109].…”

“…It has been pointed out that among these SARS-CoV-2 variants, there may be variants that increase infectivity and transmissibility, alter antigenicity, and even reduce immunity and vaccine efficacy [7][8][9][10]. The development of therapeutic agents for COVID-19 is also being actively pursued, and in fact, drugs such as remdesivir, dexamethasone, and baricitinib have been approved and are being used in clinical practice [11,12]. However, current treatment for COVID-19 is mainly symptomatic, and although several experimental therapies are being actively studied in clinical trials, in some cases, there is insufficient high-quality evidence to recommend early treatment [13,14].…”
