VENUE: Virtualized Environment for Multi-UAV Network Emulation

Abstract: Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have progressively been integrated into people lives during the last years. It is quite common now to see UAVs flying in the countryside doing field inspection, in highways for traffic control operations, or above stadiums in sport and music events. It is also common to see spectacular UAV swarm showcases (in most cases they are just performing a choreography) showing the potential of upcoming technologies. This article is focused on multi-UAV scenarios, on the establishment of … Show more

“…Our future work includes the implementation of our SUAV reference scenario. For this purpose, we will use an emulation platform for multi-UAV applications that we are developing [46]. In addition, we will continue developing solutions to address the rest of the challenges to NFV orchestration over resource-constrained environments that we have identified in this paper.…”

“…These concepts should play a major role in the delivery of future telecommunication services [110]. Furthermore, these concepts are also considered as a building block for 5G and B5G mobile networks [111]. On the one hand, SDN aims to minimize the operational costs and enable flexible network configuration.…”

“…Last but not least, we understand that laboratory experiments may not capture all the specificities of real situations, particularly regarding the conditions of the wireless medium and the geographic positioning of SUAVs. As a long-term work, we consider the incorporation of an emulation system [46] into the NFV testbed. This will allow to increase the portfolio of experimentation enablers at 5TONIC, supporting experimentation activities with NFV services and SUAV platforms, while using realistic communication channels for the SUAVs.…”
