Versatile Hydrogel Dressing with Skin Adaptiveness and Mild Photothermal Antibacterial Activity for Methicillin‐Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus‐Infected Dynamic Wound Healing

Abstract: Bacterial infection often induces chronic repair of wound healing owing to aggravated inflammation. Hydrogel dressing exhibiting intrinsic antibacterial activity may substantially reduce the use of antibiotics for infected wound management. Hence, a versatile hydrogel dressing (rGB/QCS/PDA–PAM) exhibiting skin adaptiveness on dynamic wounds and  mild photothermal antibacterial activity is developed for safe and efficient infected wound treatment. Phenylboronic acid‐functionalized graphene (rGB) and oxadiazole‐… Show more

“…Phenylboronic acid is considered as a glycocalyx-mimicking molecule that binds specifically to diol-containing saccharides on microorganism surfaces via boronic acid-diol formation. 48 QCS conjugated with phenylboronic acid moieties can specifically capture abundant bacteria causing contact damage of bacterial plasma membranes by QCS, thereby making them more susceptible to mild photothermal and NO therapy, and the synthetic route of QCS-PBA is shown in Fig. S7 (ESI†).…”

“…Conversely, the self-cleaning characteristics of AM/CH are likely ascribed to chitosan that possesses inherent bactericidal capabilities stemming from plentiful positive amino groups (NH 2 ). These groups are capable of engaging in electrostatic interactions with negatively charged pathogens, thereby causing the demise of such microorganisms …”
