Vessel Traffic Flow Distribution Model of Bridge Area Waterway in the Middle Stream of Yangtze River

Abstract: Traffic flow data collection in Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, locates in the middle of Yangtze River, is help for analysis of the waterway operating factor, which in return increases the capacity in the bridge area waterways and promotes vessel collision avoidance. Traffic flow parameters like vessel speed, arrival time, vessel clearance were collected by manual observation. Through analysis of vessel speed and vessel clearance distribution rule, the vessel speed-clearance model is established based on least squ… Show more

“…Furthermore, water level predictions are required for river and ocean navigation (Hou et al, 2014;Ma et al, 2018) -especially concerning cargo capacity calculations, journey duration, planning of arrival times at ports and harbours -and for designing hydraulic structures (offshore, dams, weirs). Extensive research has been also conducted to monitor and understand the effects of climate, evaporation, and HPP on water level fluctuations, and to assess their various impacts on sediments, water quality parameters and related processes, such as sediment drying (e.g., Keitel et al, 2015) and transport of nutrients (e.g., Matta et al, 2018).…”

“…The significant factors are reserved to model the data, while insignificant items are eliminated. The experimental results are expressed with the reduced quadratic polynomial shown in equations (11)- (14). Equations (11) and (12) are equations with coded factors, which can be used to make predictions about the response for given levels of each factor as shown in Table 3.…”

“…Compared with road traffic, ship traffic in restricted channel has similar features if looking at the data derived from automatic identification system (AIS). [12][13][14] First, ships navigating in restricted channel are close to each other and can also be treated as traffic flow. Second, the variance in ship speed can produce the queue in restricted channel, which is just like the car-following 15 used to determine how cars follow one another on a roadway.…”
