Veterinary acutherapy in management of musculoskeletal disorders: An eye-opener to the developing countries’ veterinarians

Abstract: Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners believed that the maintenance of the health status of any individual or animal is by the harmonious flow of Chi (life force) along a pathway known as the meridian. Interruption or blockage of Chi brings about disorders, pain, and diseases. Acutherapy, therefore, aims at correcting the interruption or blockage of the harmonious flow of Chi along the meridian to restore the healthy condition of the body system. “…As respostas à acupuntura dependem de aspectos fisiológicos e genéticos de cada indivíduo (BARKEN-MEUTEN et al, 2020), e seu mecanismo de analgesia ainda está sob investigação (SHMALBERG; XIE; MEMON, 2019). No entanto, condições musculo esqueléticas fazem parte da maior casuística de aplicação da acupuntura veterinária (ALIMI et al, 2020).…”

“…Serotonin, dopamine, acetylcholine, norepinephrine, gamma-aminobutyric acid, substance P, glutamate, cyclic AMP, calcium ions, cholecystokinin octapeptide and endogenous cannabinoids have been also proposed for acupuncture-based analgesia [29,30]. Vasodilation with the concomitant increment in blood flow in the needled area has been also speculated to contribute to the analgesic effect of acupuncture [31]. As the analgesic mechanisms of acupuncture could differ between normal and hyperalgesic animals [28,32], well designed studies are still required to determine the exact mechanisms in different animals in both situations and also in different pain conditions especially in relation to ST-36 and SP-6 due to their pivotal role in analgesia.…”
