This research presents a novel technique for image compression and transmission tailored for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs), emphasizing the adaptation of Modulation and Coding schemes (MCS) to suit compression ratio demands contingent on vehicle density around roadside units. Leveraging Discrete Wavelet Transform Low-Low subband (DWT LL), Singular Value Decomposition (SVD), and Linear Programming (LP), the proposed technique dynamically adjusts compression ratios based on vehicular presence. Consequently, it enables simultaneous modulation of MCS and image compression, uniquely customizing images for VANET applications. Compression ratios ranging from 47.01% to 74.1% are achieved, correlating with vehicle density near Roadside units, satisfying size constraints crucial for efficient Infrastructure to Vehicles (I2V) image message dissemination within a 300-meter radius accommodating up to 200 vehicles. This adaptive approach holds promise for delivering image-enhanced public emergency notifications within the transportation sector, offering a viable solution for real-time communication and enhancing situational awareness amidst dynamic vehicular environments.

Internet of vehicles (IoV), a novel technology, holds paramount importance within the transportation domain due to its ability to increase traffic efficiency and safety. Information privacy is of vital importance in IoV when sharing information among vehicles. However, due to the openness of the communication network, information sharing is vulnerable to potential attacks, such as impersonation, modification, side-channel and replay attacks, and so on. In order to resolve the aforementioned problem, we present a conditional privacy-preserving batch authentication (CPPBA) scheme based on elliptic curve cryptography (ECC). The proposed scheme avoids the certificate management problem, conducing to efficiency improvement. When a message is transmitted by a vehicle, its pseudo identity rather than the real identity is also broadcasted along with the shared message, which protects the privacy of the vehicle’s identity. But this privacy is conditional because TA and only the TA can reveal the real identity of the vehicle by tracing. The proposed scheme is batch verifiable, which reduces the computation costs. In addition, our scheme does not involve bilinear pairing operations and does not use the map-to-point hash function, thus making the verification process more effective. An exhaustive efficiency comparison has been carried to show that the proposed CPPBA scheme has lower computation, communication, and storage overheads than the state-of-the-art ones. A relatively comprehensive security analysis has also been carried, which not only shows that the signature design in the CPPBA scheme is unforgeable under the random oracle model but also illustrates that the CPPBA scheme is resistant to various potential attacks. The security is also verified by a popular automated simulation tool, that is, AVISPA.

With the increase of the number of connected vehicles on roads, the data dissemination within traditional network suffers from many limitations like high latency, a significant amount of dropped packets and network congestion. Therefore, the Internet of vehicles (IoV) has been designed as an emerging paradigm that combines the intelligent transportation system (ITS) with Internet of Things (IoT) technology. IoV allows vehicles to exchange data with its surroundings in order to enhance the traffic safety and to provide digital services to road users. In this paper, a taxonomy of data dissemination protocols proposed for IoV is surveyed according to three main categories namely, the smart control‐based category, social networks‐based category, and traditional approaches. We also review the data dissemination in IoV based on the fifth generation (5G) communications with emphasis on enabling technologies, architectures, services, and challenges. Moreover, we suggest in this study a new generic 5G‐based IoV architecture named IoVs based on fifth generation communications to enhance data dissemination by the promising and efficient transmission technologies such as fifth‐generation network properties, software‐defined network functionalities (SDN), and cloud‐fog computing services. The proposed scheme helps to meet challenges in the low latency, high reliability and security, high performance, mobility contrary to conventional architectures.
