Video Summarization for Multiple Sports Using Deep Learning

Abstract: This paper proposes a computationally inexpensive method for automatic key-event extraction and subsequent summarization of sports videos using scoreboard detection. A database consisting of 1300 images was used to train a supervised-learning based object detection algorithm, YOLO (You Only Look Once). Then, for each frame of the video, once the scoreboard was detected using YOLO, the scoreboard was cropped out of the image. After this, image processing techniques were applied on the cropped scoreboard to redu… Show more

“…In the existing literature, YOLO is mostly used to summarize sports videos. An automated sports video summarization technique presented by [18], in which YOLO was trained on 1300 images of different scores. A frame was given as input to YOLO after every second, if scoreboard was present, then score was inputted to optical character recognition (OCR) to compare the previous and current score.…”

“…The model's average square error calculation produced the lowest error of 1.107. The imbrute retrieval of significant events and successive overview of sports videos using scoreboard monitoring are proposed in this study by Chakradhar Guntuboina et al ( 58 ) as a low-cost computational method. YOLO (You Only Look Once) a supervised—learning-based object detection algorithm.)…”

“…The video summarization process gives a compact version of the original video for ease in managing the interesting video contents. Moreover, the video summarization methods capture the interest of the viewer by capturing exciting events from the original video [142,143]. Table 4 summarizes various proposed methodologies with their limitations to resolve various application issues in cricket.…”
