Views on Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and 3D Printing in Modern Medicine and Education: A Qualitative Exploration of Expert Opinion

Abstract: Although an increased usage and development of 3D technologies is observed in healthcare over the last decades, full integration of these technologies remains challenging. The goal of this project is to qualitatively explore challenges, pearls, and pitfalls of AR/VR/3D printing applications usage in the medical field of a university medical center. Two rounds of face-to-face interviews were conducted using a semi-structured protocol. First an explorative round was held, interviewing medical specialists (8), Ph… Show more

“…One of the primary uses of augmented reality is the implementation of interactive procedure guides, which have led to significant savings in operator trainin processes. In the field of healthcare, augmented reality has also been widely used [31] This includes guides for possible standardized procedures and methods of treating dis eases. This represents significant progress in the development of various ways to provid more personalized and accurate patient care.…”

“…Light emitting diodes (LEDs) in micro- and nanoelectronic packaging are evolving rapidly for emerging display technologies like augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) employed in 3D integration. , Popular organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays and liquid crystal displays (LCDs) have constraints over materials durability, flexibility, and need for a backlight to function . In contrast, mini-LED and micro-LED technologies have emerged as competitive OLED alternatives in this regard. Inorganic LED chips are basically constructed from GaN semiconductors with smaller sizes ranging from a few to tens of micrometers and occupy mini-and micro-LED displays .…”
