Vinyl chloride as a masked carbonyl group: An experimental project for advanced students

Abstract

Any third-year student at ESCIL-Lyon who has chosen a specialization in organic chemistry must carry out a laboratory experiment (four days a week of lab for about three months) under the supervision of an experienced teacher.Among various individual projects, we wish to describe one that seems characteristic, as it shows the two classical aspects of problems generally encountered in this field of chemical education.1) The investigation of a recently described multistep synthesis is chosen for multiple reasons: its high chemical interest and a relative certainty as to results with short and easy realization, allowing good evaluation of work and results by the project supervisor.
