Abstract:Transmission studies on penyakit merah, a virus disease of rice in Malaysia borne by the leafhopper Nephotettix impicticeps Ishihara, indicated that the virus is non-(or semi-) persistent in the vector. Acquisition, infection, and retention periods in the vector, varietal differences in resistance, showed that penyakit merah is very closely related, or possibly identical, with tungro, confirming the earlier view of Ou et al.5)
