Vojta Therapy Affects Trunk Control and Postural Sway in Children with Central Hypotonia: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Abstract: (1) Background: Decreased trunk stability is accompanied by delay in motor development in children with central hypotonia. We investigated the effect of Vojta therapy on trunk control in the sitting position in children with central hypotonia. (2) Methods: In 20 children with central hypotonia, Vojta therapy was applied to the experimental group (n = 10) and general physical therapy to the control group (n = 10). The intervention was applied for 30 min per session, three times a week, for a total of six weeks.… Show more

“…Interventional studies included five randomized controlled trials and four non-randomized clinical trials. These studies were conducted in Turkey ( 54 ), South Korea ( 52 , 53 , 58 ), Thailand ( 57 , 59 ), China ( 55 ), Romania ( 60 ), and Spain ( 56 ). A total of 267 participants were included, both men and women.…”

“…A total of 267 participants were included, both men and women. The main measurement variables related to motor function, postural control, balance, functionality, degree of satisfaction, and quality of life of VT were: gross motor function measure with GMFM ( 52 , 53 , 55 , 56 , 59 ), and Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS) ( 54 ), trunk control ( 53 ), balance ( 60 ), weight-bearing distribution ( 58 , 60 ), range of motion ( 59 ), gait analysis ( 58 , 60 ), Timed Up and Go (TUG) six-minute walking test (6MWT) ( 57 ), parents emotional status ( 54 ), parents quality of life ( 54 ) and parents satisfaction ( 59 ).…”

“…Among them, the TrA plays the most important role in trunk stability and postural control ( Hides et al, 1996 ). Poor abdominal muscle activation is evident in children with spasticity and hypotonia and is, often accompanied by excessive lumbar lordosis and anterior pelvic tilt ( Ha and Sung, 2022 ; Kim and Seo, 2015 ). In previous studies, the abdominal muscles in children with spasticity at rest were thicker than those of their TD peers ( Adjenti et al, 2018 ; Ohata et al, 2008 ).…”

“…Таким чином, Войта-терапія як втручання у дітей з центральною гіпотонією в клінічній практиці може мати значний вплив на покращення рухової функції [17]. Також підхід Войта дозволяє підняти тіло та контролювати поставу за допомогою тонічного скорочення м'язів шиї, тулуба та кінцівок та впливає на покращення постави шляхом активації глибоких м'язів хребта [18].…”
