Voltage control strategy with stepped controllable shunt reactor in large-scale wind power system

Abstract: Due to the randomness and uncertainty of wind power, voltage fluctuation in large-scale wind power system should not be ignored. The stepped controllable shunt reactor (SCSR) is an effective method to regulate voltage within its limits in this paper. The physical structure and working principle of SCSR are analyzed in detail. Voltage control method of SCSR is proposed, which is based on the bus voltage fluctuation of high voltage side in transformer substation. Calculating method for each required capacity is … Show more

“…Up to now, the applicability of the magnetically controlled shunt reactor (MCSR) [1,2] and stepped controlled shunt reactor (SCSR) [3,4] have been studied. However, these two types of CSRs both have disadvantages.…”

“…Due to the intermittency, randomness and variability of the wind power, large-scale wind farm integration into grid will bring lots of adverse effects to the grid, mainly in the field of voltage and frequency [5]. Currently, the related studies mostly focus on the voltage [6][7][8][9], while pay less attention to the frequency. Yet, power system frequency is a very important operation parameter in the grid.…”
