Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is increasingly used as an alternative green chemical solvent. New experimental measurements on density, viscosity, and self-diffusion coefficient are presented for PEG200, PEG400, and several binary mixtures of tri-and hexaethylene glycol covering a temperature range from 298.15 to 358.15 K. Because PEGs are polydisperse, the exact compositions of PEG200 from six different vendors are analytically determined and found to be comparable. Thus, only two of the most differing PEG200 samples are further examined. The effects of water as the most common impurity on densities, viscosities, and self-diffusion coefficients are inspected as well as the results of the "dry" samples obtained by extrapolation to zero water content. The obtained results are carefully compared to the available literature data. The temperature dependence of these physical properties is investigated and found to be linear for density, while viscosity and selfdiffusion coefficients follow the Arrhenius law. Attempts to calculate the properties of the binary mixtures and PEG200 samples from the mole fraction weighted average of the physical properties of the mixture components result in reasonable agreement. Agreement between calculated and measured molar volumes is within measurement uncertainty. Agreement of calculated and measured viscosities is mostly within a few percent but increases with decreasing temperature (largest viscosities) reaching values of up to 15%. Similarly, calculated and measured self-diffusion coefficients mostly agree within 20%, which is near the measurement uncertainty, but overestimates increase to 30% for the highest temperatures (largest self-diffusion coefficients).

The ability to control the degree of particle dispersion in polymer solutions has been a long-standing subject in colloidal science. While a generally accepted principle is that nonadsorbing polymers can induce depletion attraction, which is mostly temperature independent, the effects of adding adsorbing polymers are still poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the effects of adsorbing polymers on the temperature-dependent stability of nanoparticles. The model systems consisted of silica nanoparticles in low-molecularweight poly(ethylene glycol) solutions. The detailed microstructures were determined with small-angle X-ray and neutron scattering measurements, while the dynamics of the temperature-dependent microstructures of the nanoparticles and polymers were probed with diffusing-wave spectroscopy. It was found that a poor solvent for polymer could drive adsorbed polymers to leave the particle substrate and return to the bulk solution due to a complicated interaction with surface, while the loss of the steric layer causes the nanoparticles to aggregate at elevated temperatures.

Several thermophysical properties such as densities, ρ, speeds of sound, u, refractive indices, nD, and kinematic viscosities,, have been measured for the binary mixtures of N,N-Dimethylacetamide with 1-propanol and 1-butanol over the entire range of composition, at the temperatures (283.15, 298.15 and 313.15) K and at atmospheric pressure p = 0.1 MPa. From these experimental data, excess molar volumes, V E , excess isentropic compressibilities, E S  , refractive index deviations, ΔnD, and viscosity deviations, Δη, were calculated. The calculated excess or deviation properties were correlated with the Redlich-Kister equation and the corresponding parameters were presented. The results obtained, were discussed in terms of structural effects and specific molecular interactions, and the influence of the alkanol chain length was also considered.
