This study aimed to evaluate the synthesis of MgAl/LDH from the drying process perspective, evaluating the influence of temperature (75–90 °C) and time (16–20 h) in the drying process. The synthesis was performed, maintaining a ratio of 2:1 of Mg/Al, and the drying was conducted according to a 2 2 experimental design: four axial points and three repetitions at the central point. The surface area and pore diameter ranged from 4.09 to 18.55 m 2 /g and 12.50 to 24.46 nm. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis indicated the drying-caused variation of the LDH typical bands intensities. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images showed the tendency of the increase of agglomeration with the temperature elevation. The drying parameters’ influence was evident for X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis observing the crystallite size increment, from 13.10 to 38.94 nm, and basal spacing variation, from 7.52 to 7.64 Å. The statistical models for growing crystal and reduction of the basal spacing were physically consistent but with low values of R 2 . The drying time and temperature had a considerable influence on the chemical, physical, structural, and morphological properties of LDH.

In this work, CuAl/Biochar (BC) composite was prepared by the coprecipitation method. The materials were applied to remove malachite green in aqueous solution. These materials were characterized using XRD, FTIR, BET and SEM-EDX analyses. The composite material was confirmed by X-ray diffractograms with reflection (002) at 24o and the appearance of new peaks at 1095 cm -1 . The BET result of CuAl/BC composite has larger surface area is 168 m 2 /g than 46 m 2 /g for LDH. The morphologies of composite materials show agglomeration and micro particle size. The result of the adsorption study indicated the composite material follows pseudo-second-order (PSO) and Langmuir isotherm models. The maximum adsorption capacity of malachite green using CuAl/BC uptake is 164.316 mg/g. The thermodynamic analysis indicates that the malachite green adsorption is spontaneous, endothermic. Regeneration study of adsorbent CuAl/BC composite shows after four times reused, it still has high removal efficiency at 89%.

Overuse and misuse of different antibiotics are considered as one of the main causes of antibiotics accumulation in the environment, most commonly used antibiotics are semimetabolized and excreted by humans to the environment. Studies reported that antibiotic usage exceeds 100,000 tons per year, and this amount may be shocking. However, in fact, the persistence of antibiotic compounds may be more dangerous than the used amount, so it is necessary to develop new methods for elimination of these new pollutants from the environment, especially from water. In this paper, we highlight new and more efficient methods used for removing antibiotic residues (AR) and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). The new techniques are Fe3O4/red mud nanoparticles, 3D hierarchical porous-structured biochar aerogels, calcined layered double hydroxides, co-doped UiO-66 nanoparticles, Cu@TiO2 hybrids, bioelectrochemical systems, and aerobic granulation process. Most of these methods showed good performance in removing AR and ARGs that ranged from 85% to 95%. These percentages are consider very efficient compared with traditional wastewater treatment methods.
