Water Turbidity Retrieval Based on UAV Hyperspectral Remote Sensing

Abstract: The water components affecting turbidity are complex and changeable, and the spectral response mechanism of each water quality parameter is different. Therefore, this study mainly aimed at the turbidity monitoring by unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) hyperspectral technology, and establishes a set of turbidity retrieval models through the artificial control experiment, and verifies the model’s accuracy through UAV flight and water sample data in the same period. The results of this experiment can also be extended … Show more

“…As pointed out in various previous studies (Cui et al, 2022;Feng et al, 2015;Hu & Feng, 2016), this normalization procedure effectively reduces the differences in the spectral magnitudes caused by the dynamics in water turbidity.…”

“…Feizi et al., for instance, conducted an image-based study on turbidity identification under laboratory conditions, achieving 97.5% accuracy in detecting water turbidity classes. Cui et al monitored turbidity through unmanned aerial vehicle images with high spectral information. Guo et al constructed a neural network for turbidity identification based on remote sensing image data.…”

“…Water turbidity, a critical parameter signifying the reduction in liquid transparency due to light-scattering substances in water, carries far-reaching implications for river water quality management and ecological preservation. Therefore, the development of cost-effective and noncontact methods for measuring water turbidity is essential for monitoring changes in river water quality …”

“…In recent years, the development of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) aerial photogrammetry makes it convenient and reliable to obtain the terrain information of the underlying surface [10][11][12][13]. It has been widely used in monitoring dynamic changes in mountain glaciers [10][11][12][13][14], river morphology [15,16] and surface deformation [17], water quality [18], water turbidity [19], flood events [20], and changes in the coastal zone [21]. For river monitoring, many studies have been carried out using UAV data for river information gathering and discharge estimation [22] and river terraces and water erosion change monitoring [23].…”
