Weed Interference on ‘Prata-Anã’ Banana Production

Abstract: In the state of Minas Gerais, the northern region is one of the main banana production cores. Weed interference can reduce crop growth and, consequently, lead to reduced yield and fruit quality. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the interference of weeds in the production of the first and second cycles of ‘Prata-Anã’ bananas. The experimental design was randomized blocks, with ten treatments and three replicates, evaluated in two crop cycles. The treatments were ten periods of weed control… Show more

“…Estudos de matocompetição na cultura da banana são poucos encontrados na literatura, fazendo com que as práticas de controle sejam baseadas em informações de apenas uma região ou extrapoladas de outras culturas. De maneira geral, é importante integrar métodos químicos, mecânicos e culturais de plantas daninhas, principalmente nos primeiros meses de cultivo (LICHTEMBERG;LICHTEMBERG, 2011;SANTOS et al, 2019).…”

“…Weeds are among the bottlenecks in banana production, which cause yield decrease and affect yield components as well as delay flowering and harvest (Santos et al, 2019). Especially young banana plants more prone to weed competition due to delay at maturity (Isaac et al, 2007).…”

“…However, there are several forms of interference in plant development of the crop of interest, such as through allelopathy, with toxic, stimulating or innocuous allelochemicals for other plant species (DEUBER, 2003) or by competition, either by removing or reducing one or more factors necessary for the growth and development of both species, such as light, water, nutrients and physical space (LORENZI et al, 2014, SANTOS et al, 2019GAZZIERO et al, 2019).…”
